College Student Explodes At Mom’s Boyfriend After Being Told To Babysit His 11-Year-Old Kid
This college student hit his breaking point after being constantly used as a live-in babysitter.
College stress can make anyone snap, but sometimes it’s not just the assignments piling up. For one 20-year-old student (OP), the final straw came when his mom’s boyfriend suddenly decided he should double as a babysitter.
OP’s been juggling exams, projects, and a packed schedule, trying to make it through his second year. But his mom’s boyfriend, Mark, has developed a habit of pushing his son, Liam, towards him (OP) at the slightest opportunity.
Recently, just as OP was preparing to spend the weekend buried in work at the campus library, Mark casually dropped a bombshell: he and mom were heading out, and OP would need to “keep an eye” on Liam for the time being.
Now, Liam isn’t a bad kid, but OP described him as loud, restless, and having no sense of boundaries. The kind of energy that’s fine for a playground, not a college library.
Consequently, OP declined this request. Mark suggested OP just bring the boy along and “keep him busy with a tablet.”
OP refused a second time, saying it’s impossible to focus with an 11-year-old tagging along. But Mark insisted that it’s “just one day” and complained that finding other arrangements would be too much work.
At this point, OP snapped. He made it clear that Liam isn’t his kid, not his responsibility, and that he never signed up to parent anyone.
The words stung Mark and left him silent. Later on, OP’s mom texted, calling him disrespectful. In addition, things are now tense at home.

The Reddit community is solidly behind OP on this matter.
The overwhelming majority have noted that it’s not OP’s responsibility to be a live-in babysitter, especially when they have their own life to live.
In addition, they have encouraged OP not to shift grounds despite his mom’s text. In fact, one Redditor went the extra mile to compose a detailed text he could send to his mom, explaining the reason for the altercation with Mark.
In all, this incident will definitely force everyone to rethink what’s fair to ask from a young adult still finding his own footing.
What do you think? Did OP go too far, or was it a long-overdue reality check?
