Netizens Discuss Who They Believe Are The Actual Bad Guys In These TV Series And Films
It's basically an expectations versus reality: media villains edition
When there’s a hero, there’s a villain. Filmmakers often make the villain obvious for the audience to identify, and they willingly buy into that agenda.
You’ll see this villain being blamed by everyone for the destruction, and if you could throw popcorn at the screen when they appear, you would. It takes a great actor to make the villain’s intentions believable.
If you look closely, though, you’ll notice gray characters that are actually villains in disguise. Most of the time, you wouldn’t think of it since they’re the protagonists of the show.
You might not even notice it right away until someone points it out, as these people did in our list. A number of individuals online identified and shared who they thought the real villains were in each show, and you might actually be surprised by some of them.
The trend started when a meme circulated on social media platforms, featuring the obvious villain on one side and the ‘real’ villain on the other. For example, in the TV show Glee, you might think that the villain is Sue, given all the things she did.
And she can be, but people see Mr. Schue as the real villain because of the things he did that they let slide. There are many more conclusions like that in these posts.
1. In SpongeBob SquarePants, the real bad guy is Mr. Krabs, who exploits his employees and cuts corners to save money due to his greed.
@mtnhighpanda2. When you rewatch the Disney classic 'The Parent Trap', ask yourself: "What kind of family court judge separates twins?"
@offbeatorbit3. The vigilante 'hero' does not deserve applause for cleaning up Gotham.

4. If Walt had access to free universal healthcare, he wouldn't have had to resort to drug dealing to save his life.

5. Kevin's family literally forgot him on their overseas trip, leaving him vulnerable to all sorts of danger.

6. Andy's friends are terrible, as highlighted in that bar scene where she brought them free things from her job, and all they did was make her doubt herself. We see you losers, especially you, Nate!
@GrimKrueger
7. Sharpay worked hard to hone her talent in performing ever since she was young, and out of the blue, Gabriella comes in to undo everything Sharpay and Ryan did.

8. Disappointing but not surprising; also very on-brand.

9. She stole a cheer word for word from another cheerleading team, which is, by the way, mainly composed of Black people and POCs.

10. The worst guy presented as the classic 'I'm-a-good-guy' is none other than architect Ted Mosby. He is an unreliable narrator determined to portray himself as the hopeless romantic who is somehow always the victim. There are theories on the internet discussing how he purposefully made Barney look like a jerk in the flashbacks to make himself look better.

You might be more doubtful the next time you watch a new movie or show. Or you might revisit the ones mentioned in these OPs’ posts and realize why they are right with their conclusions.
At least now you can figure out the sneaky ways filmmakers hide the villains by pushing another really obvious one to the forefront of the stories. You could decide next time who the real bad guys are and create your own meme post.
Who was the most surprising for you? You can share it with us in the comments.
