Inspired Photographer Reverses Gender Roles Portrayed in Sexist 1950s Ads
In the series titled "In A Parallel Universe," a photographer reversed the gender roles in some of the ads to reveal how absurd these stereotypes were.
Some vintage ads age badly, and these 1950s images are a perfect example. Photographer and video editor Eli Rezkallah saw that old-school sexism in action and decided to flip it on its head.
In his series, In A Parallel Universe, he reversed the gender roles in familiar ad scenes to show just how ridiculous the stereotypes looked when the script was switched. The result is sharp, funny, and a little uncomfortable in the best way.
He turned a throwback aesthetic into a pointed comeback, and the recreated ads do not hold back.
