Wealthy Husband Charges His Wife's Family $25 Each For Attending The Cookout He Hosted At His Fancy Home

He said they should think of the dinner as a resort-style cookout because his house has so many amenities.

Family gatherings can be fun-filled bonding events, but they can also be the main stage for family drama to unfold.

In this case, it was the latter. OP (original poster) shared that her husband of seven months comes from a wealthy family from which he inherited considerable assets.

The big house they currently live in is one of those assets. Their home features a large backyard, a pool, and many other interesting amenities.

The husband and wife decided to host their first cookout since the wedding and invited both of their families. Everyone had a great time, went home, and no drama arose from it—or so OP thought.

OP's mom called her, sounding stressed. Her mom asked if OP's husband collected money from his family before they attended the cookout.

Confused by her mom's inquiry, OP asked what she meant. Her mom explained that OP's husband charged every single member of their family $25 before they could attend the cookout.

OP was angry, but mostly, she couldn't believe the information her mom had just shared. She also felt that what her husband did had permanently strained her relationship with her family, as most of them had attended their party.

Fuming, OP ended the call immediately and went to confront her husband. He said they should think of it as a "resort" cookout because the house has many luxuries, and OP's family got to enjoy the view.

OP told him that what he did was horrible, and the fact that he didn't treat his family the same way made things worse. He responded by laughing at OP.

He reminded her that the house was given to him by his family. OP demanded the money back, but he said he wouldn't do that, plus he wouldn't give the cash to her because the house is technically his alone.

OP took the money back anyway. She returned the cash to every member of her family along with the sincerest apologies she could muster.

Her husband found out and flipped out. He said OP behaved disrespectfully by taking the money back and that she overstepped his boundaries.

OP defended her actions by saying he shouldn't have charged money to her family, as they were guests in their house. He corrected her, stating it was his house.

He also said OP's family had probably never attended a cookout at a house like his. Plus, he only charged $25 for the event, but OP was too disrespectful to let him keep it.

Is $25 per person enough money to throw a whole marriage over? In this case, it absolutely is enough.

It may not be a lot, but what that cash symbolizes weighs heavily. By charging OP's family for what's supposed to be a fun and casual dinner at home, he is expressing exactly what he thinks of OP's family and how much he values them.
