AITA For Revealing My Ex-Wife's Infidelity To My Daughter Over A XComment About My New Girlfriend?
AITA for revealing my ex-wife's infidelity to my daughter after she insulted my new girlfriend, leading to a confrontation with my ex?
Throwaway accounts and fake names are usually a sign that something messy is about to blow up, and this one starts with a divorce, a new girlfriend, and one brutal daughter who is way too comfortable saying what everyone else is thinking.
OP, a 49-year-old divorced dad, found out his ex-wife Emily cheated on him with multiple men, then watched both kids quietly default to mom’s side. Now he’s dating Lisa, 54, and bringing her around the family. Nick warmed up to Lisa fast, but Skylar, 19, immediately clocked her as “an OnlyFans chick” and used it as an insult.
OP tried to correct the story by pointing out that Emily was the cheater, not him, and that is when the whole household started spinning.
Original Post
Throwaway account and fake names. I (49M) got divorced from my wife, Emily (49F), because she cheated on me with multiple men.
We have a son and a daughter. Our son, Nick (22M), has always been closer to his mom, while our daughter, Skylar (19F), has always been closer to me.
Not knowing why we got divorced, the kids took their mom's side. I recently started dating Lisa (54F).
She has a fun personality, she's smoking hot, and she dresses very fashionably. When I introduced Lisa to my kids, Nick took a liking to her, while Skylar looked annoyed.
Days later, Skylar said that Lisa looks like an OnlyFans chick. If you knew Skylar, you would be shocked that she would use that as a way to insult another woman.
I told her that her mom, Emily, was the one who cheated on me and that I met Lisa after the divorce. Skylar just said, "Oh," and she became quiet.
But the next day, my ex-wife, Emily, confronted me. I reminded her that I never promised to keep her cheating a secret.
She said that I "implied" it would be a secret based on the fact that I never said whether or not I would tell our kids. Am I the a*****e?

EDIT
----------
Something of an update since I posted. Even though my daughter is in her bedroom in my house, I messaged her because she said she doesn't want to see anyone.
She sent me a very, very long message she had written beforehand. In the message, my daughter admitted that her mom and her maternal aunt said those kinds of things about Lisa.
She said she's embarrassed that she repeated those awful things. She said she thought that I was the one who cheated on her mom.
She said she thought I had cheated on her mom with Lisa. She said she's not mad at me.
She said she's mad at her mom. She said Lisa seems like a wonderful woman.
She said she wants to talk about this face-to-face but not anytime soon. She said she'll tell me when she's up to talking about it face-to-face when she thinks she can do it without crying.
The fallout from infidelity can ripple through family relationships in unexpected ways, particularly affecting the bond between parents and children. In this case, the father's decision to reveal his ex-wife's betrayal to their daughter not only serves as a moment of personal catharsis but also introduces complex emotional repercussions. The daughter's rude comment about the new girlfriend highlights a potential misalignment in her understanding of family dynamics and loyalty.
This revelation could lead to confusion and anger, as the daughter grapples with her feelings of betrayal from both parents. Such disclosures can challenge a child's perception of family stability, as they are forced to navigate the murky waters of adult relationships and their inherent complexities. The father's actions may provide him with a sense of justice, but they also risk further complicating his relationship with his daughter, making it crucial to approach these sensitive topics with care.

That “OnlyFans chick” comment was bad enough, but OP decided to clarify the cheating timeline to Skylar anyway.
Studies show that children may struggle to reconcile their feelings toward both parents when faced with infidelity, leading to emotional distress.
This dynamic underscores the importance of managing disclosures with care and sensitivity.

When parents engage in honest discussions about their feelings and experiences, it can foster understanding and pave the way for reconciliation.
This practice can help address children's concerns and promote a sense of stability.

The next day, Emily confronted OP about “implying” she needed to stay quiet, which is where the fight stopped being just family drama.

Then OP tried to talk to Skylar after she said she did not want to see anyone, and she sent a message that basically detonated the truth.
By agreeing on rules for communication, family members can create a more respectful and constructive dialogue.
This approach can foster understanding and reduce tension during difficult conversations.

Skylar admitted her mom and her maternal aunt were the ones pushing those insults about Lisa, and now she wants to talk face-to-face only when she can stop crying.

The father's decision to reveal his ex-wife's betrayal to his daughter in response to a hurtful comment about his new girlfriend highlights the complexities of family dynamics. Rather than fostering a nurturing environment, this revelation risks deepening the rift between parent and child, as well as complicating the already delicate relationship with the new girlfriend.
In situations like these, open communication is essential. The father must navigate his daughter's feelings while also protecting his new relationship. It's a balancing act that requires both empathy and clarity. Ultimately, the path toward healing will depend on their ability to engage in honest dialogues about feelings and expectations moving forward.
The real villain in this story might not be OP’s mouth, it’s the people who kept feeding Skylar the wrong narrative.
