Am I Wrong for Refusing to Pay Half of Mortgage on House I Wont Live In?

AITA for hesitating to pay half the mortgage on a house I won't live in for 1.5 years despite being engaged? Fiancé expects me to contribute.

A 2K-a-month mortgage argument is not the kind of drama you want to start your engagement with, but that is exactly what happened when this OP told her fiancé she will not put her name on a loan for a house she won’t live in for a year and a half.

They are planning a future home together, yet right now she is being asked to pay half the mortgage anyway, even though she is not moving in until later. The fiancé thinks “responsibility” means splitting costs immediately, while OP sees it as paying for time she is not using and a loan she is not signing up for.

Now this couple is stuck, and the question is whether OP is being unfair or just refusing to get played.

AITA for telling my fiancé I do not want to put my name on the loan and make $2K monthly payments to our future house that I won’t live in for the next year and a half? He thinks I should be responsible for paying half the mortgage even if I won’t move in for the next year and a half.

The fiancé’s insistence on splitting the $2K monthly payment right away is what kicked off the whole fight for OP.

OP’s refusal to put her name on the loan turns a simple “who pays what” issue into a trust issue.

The comments start chiming in, with people weighing in on whether OP should pay half for a house she won’t even touch yet.

By the time the thread gets traction, OP and her fiancé are basically arguing over who is responsible for the mortgage during the no-move-in period.

He might be calling it responsibility, but OP is treating it like a bill for a house she is not living in.
