20 Hard-To-Believe Things Men Have Had The Audacity To Say To Women During Childbirth

"My husband asked me if I knew how much longer it would take."

Childbirth is stressful enough without a partner saying the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time. In this roundup, moms shared the most jaw-dropping comments men made while they were in labor, and the results are equal parts funny, frustrating, and unforgettable.

The stories come from a TikTok prompt by @sydneylaurenco, who asked parents to share the worst obnoxious thing their husband did during labor. The responses range from clueless to wildly insensitive, and they show just how fast a hospital room can go from tense to unbelievable.

One mom shared her experience:

She kicked it off with her story:

"I had my daughter four weeks early. I had to be induced; the pain was so severe that I had to wait until I was six centimeters dilated before I could get an epidural, so it was probably the longest time I had ever been in that much pain. I was throwing up and couldn't even cry — that's how much pain I was in.And before the nurse left the room, my husband said, 'Hey, before you leave, do you think I could get an allergy pill? Because my allergies are killing me.'"She kicked it off with her story:@sydneylaurenco

Fellow moms like @abi.twinsmom shared their own stories:

"After 16 hours (nine of them being unmedicated), my husband cut the cord, they got the baby breathing, and then he came up to me and said, ‘I did good, didn’t I? I cut the cord, and I watched the whole thing, and I didn’t even pass out! I did good, didn’t I?!’"Fellow moms like @abi.twinsmom shared their own stories:@abi.twinsmom / Via tiktok.com

And also, @itsme_mrsp:

"During one of the most intense parts of my last labor, I was contracting maybe every two minutes, or even less than that. My husband looked over at me and said, 'Well babe, I'm gonna go ahead and take a nap, so I can be ready.' I still wonder, to this day, what he was preparing for except to watch me push."And also, @itsme_mrsp:@itsme_mrsp / Via tiktok.com

Some of these comments are painfully memorable.

It also echoes the AITA conflict where the OP reconsidered a best friend as a birthing partner after her pregnancy changed the plan.

For all fathers and fathers-to-be out there, here's a good tip: If you're thinking about doing or saying something along these lines when your partner is giving birth, take a step back and...don't.

The most crucial thing is that you communicate with your loved one and inquire about her desires and needs. Stopping at Blockbuster while on your way to the hospital is not one of them.

Some people should just stay quiet in the delivery room.

Before you judge, read the AITA blowup over someone revealing the baby’s gender without consulting their partner.
