Kids' Neighborhood Bake Sale Goes Bitter When An Entitled Mom Demanded Half Of The Profits Despite Her Kid Bailing In The Middle Of The Day
Literal receipts were brought, ingredients were measured and computed, and the entitled mom owed money!
A neighborhood bake sale was supposed to be a sweet little summer project, but one family’s money-making plan quickly turned messy.
OP said her kids teamed up with a neighbor’s child to sell cookies in a tourist-heavy area, and the setup seemed simple enough until the profits started rolling in. What began as a fun lesson in earning money turned into an argument over fairness when the neighbor’s kid got bored and wanted to leave early, then still expected half the cash.
By the time the adults got involved, the whole thing had turned into a lesson nobody expected. Read on.
Most of what they were selling was baked by OP, but the neighbor's kid didn't care and insisted they split everything 50/50
OP's kids refused to give in to his demands, making the neighbor's kid leave in a huff. After a few hours, OP's kids cleaned up and carried everything they used for the sale.
They were annoyed that the neighbor's kid got upset with them. Suddenly, they heard someone knocking; it was the neighbor's kid, who was still pouting, and his mom, who was holding a receipt.
The mom explained that she brought a bunch of items the kids used for their bake sale. It cost her a lot of money, and it was unfair that OP's kids were making money off of what they bought.
The mom was demanding compensation for what she purchased. OP saw the receipt and immediately noticed items they didn't use for the bake sale.
OP became annoyed that the other kid's mom turned something innocent and fun into an awkward conversation. The mom was ignoring the fact that her kid went home early and that OP was primarily in charge of baking all the goods they sold.
OP shook it off and got her own receipt. She sat with the kid and his mom and then began calculating every item she bought for the bake sale.
OP made a lot of cookies, and by the end of her computation, the neighbor's kid owed OP $23. Everyone was quiet, and OP thanked the mom for making sure everything was handled fairly.

OP's neighbors are officially done thanks to their attitude
She made sure to let them know they were no longer welcome in future bake sales
They also paid their $23 bill
This drama echoes OP refusing to share grandma’s secret banana bread recipe with a cousin’s bakery.
Did the rest of the kids make any profit?
Looks like they made a killing!
The audacity of that mom to complain
She could have gladly appreciated what her kid made, given that he went home in the middle of the sale
OP's kids should continue this tradition, and they will be set for another summer
Fair is fair, and if the parents wanted their kids to earn the same despite putting in half the effort, that says more about them, really

OP has doomed her kids to a future of fiscal responsibility
OP's kids will always keep receipts and use them when needed
OP did a really great job, and her kids are growing up with a strong, shiny spine
Hopefully, the neighbor kid learned something from this experience because his mom won't teach him the beauty of responsibility

OP did a really great job teaching her kids hard work and seeing things through. She also showed them what it's like to stand up for yourself against a person intent on intimidating you.
With the way they stood their ground when the neighbor's kid demanded half the profits, they are already practicing what OP preached. The other kid's mom should have accepted the cookie; it would have paired well with her wounded ego.
