Kids' Neighborhood Bake Sale Goes Bitter When An Entitled Mom Demanded Half Of The Profits Despite Her Kid Bailing In The Middle Of The Day

Literal receipts were brought, ingredients were measured and computed, and the entitled mom owed money!

Neighbors, at best, are your fiercest allies and, at worst, your unshakeable nightmares. There seems to be no in-between, and if you are one of the unlucky ones, you know just how bad things can get.

This mom recently experienced this tension with her neighbors because of their kids' shared bake sale. OP (original poster) shared that they live in a neighborhood that attracts a lot of tourists, so her kids and the neighbor's kid decided to sell cookies.

OP joked that she should charge them for her labor and the ingredients she paid for because she wanted to introduce the concept of net gains. Instead, she will donate those to their cause, but they do have to repay her for the money she lent them for loose change.

The kids earned a lot of money, and OP loved seeing them learn about hard work and getting excited about their success. All was going well until the neighbor's kid got bored after a few hours.

He wanted to go home and told OP's kids to come by his house once they were done to deliver his half of the profit. OP's kid said that wasn't fair, and if he was going to leave, they should split the money they had on hand.

Most of what they were selling was baked by OP, but the neighbor's kid didn't care and insisted they split everything 50/50

OP's kids refused to give in to his demands, making the neighbor's kid leave in a huff. After a few hours, OP's kids cleaned up and carried everything they used for the sale.

They were annoyed that the neighbor's kid got upset with them. Suddenly, they heard someone knocking; it was the neighbor's kid, who was still pouting, and his mom, who was holding a receipt.

The mom explained that she brought a bunch of items the kids used for their bake sale. It cost her a lot of money, and it was unfair that OP's kids were making money off of what they bought.

The mom was demanding compensation for what she purchased. OP saw the receipt and immediately noticed items they didn't use for the bake sale.

OP became annoyed that the other kid's mom turned something innocent and fun into an awkward conversation. The mom was ignoring the fact that her kid went home early and that OP was primarily in charge of baking all the goods they sold.

OP shook it off and got her own receipt. She sat with the kid and his mom and then began calculating every item she bought for the bake sale.

OP made a lot of cookies, and by the end of her computation, the neighbor's kid owed OP $23. Everyone was quiet, and OP thanked the mom for making sure everything was handled fairly.

OP did a really great job teaching her kids hard work and seeing things through. She also showed them what it's like to stand up for yourself against a person intent on intimidating you.

With the way they stood their ground when the neighbor's kid demanded half the profits, they are already practicing what OP preached. The other kid's mom should have accepted the cookie; it would have paired well with her wounded ego.
