These Celebs Literally Cannot Keep Their Mouths Shut

Don't worry, they're just yawning.

Yawning is, quite obviously, the act of opening your mouth and taking in a long, deep breath of air. While you yawn, your eardrums stretch, and sometimes your eyes water.

It is one of those peculiar bodily reactions that everyone experiences. Typically, it’s considered a sign of being tired, sleepy, or just bored, but yawns can also be contagious, as they can be triggered by someone else yawning.

There have been several theories as to why we yawn, such as a way to replenish the body's oxygen supplies, a reflex to cool the brain, or even for stretching the lungs. Recently, Andrew C. Gallup, a behavioral scientist at the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute, has suggested a new theory.

Gallup proposes that yawning began as an evolutionary reflex developed to warn others in a pack that someone may be less alert, prompting the group to be extra vigilant against predators. The contagiousness of yawning is part of this adaptation, helping to enhance group synchrony and vigilance.

It’s fascinating that something so fundamentally basic, which our bodies do without conscious thought or purposeful movement, has been studied so extensively. This new theory is intriguing and serves as a reminder that humans are also part of the animal kingdom.

A peculiar aspect of the animal kingdom is that it idolizes others of its species for their ability to entertain. So much so that others will follow them around, capturing pictures of them simply existing outside their entertainment roles, even catching random moments like yawning.

This leads us to the 25 random pictures of celebrities yawning that we found on the internet. Scroll to see your favorite celebs in all their silly, yawn-faced glory.

I've literally lost count of how many times I've yawned while working on this.

I guess it goes to show how contagious yawns can be; still photos can be just as effective at encouraging yawning as in-person experiences. Surprisingly, just writing or reading the word "yawn/yawning" is enough to trigger my apparently weak yawn reflex.

What about you? Did any of these pictures or reading about yawning cause you to yawn? Which celebrity yawn was your favorite?

In my humble opinion, Marisa Tomei is flawlessly stunning, even mid-yawn. Let us know your experience and thoughts in the comments section, and see if you can make a friend yawn by sharing this with them!
