Christmas illustrations do not usually come with punchlines, but Steve Nelson found a way to make the season feel a lot funnier. The Brighton-based comedy writer and aspiring illustrator turned spare time into a festive Instagram project packed with clever, holiday-themed jokes.

What started as a virtual advent calendar quickly became a race against the clock, since making 24 drawings was harder than it looked. Nelson, who has worked across comedy writing and radio projects, leaned into illustration as a new way to deliver his humor, and the results are playful, sharp, and very Christmas.
