Debating Whether Im Wrong for Not Using Last 20€ to Pay Debt

AITA for not using my last 20€ to pay a debt? Post-vacation money struggles spark debate on financial priorities and debt repayment etiquette.

It started with a vacation and a “don’t worry, I’ll cover it” moment, then somehow turned into a full-on money standoff. The OP, a 23-year-old woman, thought she was handling things the only way she could, but now her boyfriend is asking for exact numbers and acting like she’s dragging her feet.

Here’s the complicated part: she’s a part-timer, she couldn’t cover her share of the trip, and her boyfriend agreed to pay. The deal was simple, she’d repay him when she got paid, but when payday arrived, rent, food, and utilities ate most of her paycheck. She ended up with only 20 euros left, and instead of sending it to him, she bought a digital watch that tracks steps because she needed to feel like her work mattered.

Now he wants to know how much she owes, and the question on everyone’s mind is whether her “I’ll pay you when I can” plan turned into a betrayal.

Original Post

Ok. So last month me (23F) and my (24M) went on a vacation.

I am a part timer and i couldn't pay my Share. He offered to pay but i would have to pay as soon as i can.

Só this month i got payed. Me and my mom are struggling a bit in terms of rent só i had to give more money for house, food and utilities this month.

I stayed with literally 20€ left on my bank account . With that i bought a digital watch that counts my steps.

I worked all month and didn't Saw any of my hard work to BE just for bills. I told him.

He was ok with it. He knows everything that's going on in terms of finances in my place.

He told me that i could pay him when i could Today he asked me how much it was and how when you own someone you pay them back. So...

Am i the a*****e?

When the OP showed up to the month with 20 euros left, the digital step-counting watch became the flashpoint instead of the repayment.

Her boyfriend was apparently fine with her finances at first, right up until he asked for the exact amount she owed after seeing she spent money on herself.

The fact that the OP told him everything about her rent struggle makes his “you own someone you pay them back” line hit even harder.

So now, with the vacation tab still hanging over their heads, he’s pushing for repayment while she’s stuck defending why the 20 euros didn’t go to him.
