Disney Characters Replace Original Muses From These Famous Art Masterpieces
One artist's imagination will forever change the way you see these pieces.
Disney characters have a way of making familiar stories feel brand new, and one Spanish illustrator found a clever way to bring that magic into art history. By swapping classic muses for beloved animated characters, Carlos Gromo turned famous paintings into something playful and instantly recognizable.
The illustrator, known as carlosgromodraw on Instagram, began the project after finishing his Fine Art studies in 2019. Since then, he has used Disney figures to spotlight well-known masterpieces, giving longtime art fans a fresh reason to look twice.
Now the series is drawing attention for all the right reasons, and the mashups only get more charming as they go on. Read on.
Lucky for us, the project took off without a hitch, and Gromo's goal was met in full; people have learned more about classical art.
The artist said the idea came together after university, when he realized many people did not know the paintings he loved.

When asked about the time it takes to complete one illustration, he said:
The timeline depends on how complex the piece is, and some illustrations take much longer than others.
He also mentioned that his decision-making regarding a specific subject is the main factor that consumes a lot of time.
He spends a lot of time researching possible ideas before choosing the one that feels most interesting.

He also went on to say:
He described spending a lot of time on composition sketches before starting the final work.
I work on the lights, shadows, and lines in a very schematic way and without details to see if the idea is good or if, on the contrary, I need to modify something before starting the final work. I think the best part is when I have already completed the final line art and I start to color the illustration because that is when you truly begin to feel that the illustration changes completely.
This is similar to a student choosing art school while parents push tradition.
