Encanto Fans Get a Clear Sequel Update as Disney Shifts the Story to Animal Kingdom
Disney producer Yvett Merino says there are no talks for Encanto 2, while Encanto expands at Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2027.
Fans still hoping the Madrigals would return in an Encanto 2 just got the clearest answer yet. A Disney producer says there are no discussions about a sequel right now, even as the film’s world keeps growing in the parks.
Yvett Merino, a creative executive at Walt Disney Animation Studios and the producer of Encanto, said there have been no discussions about greenlighting Encanto 2. She shared the update while promoting the upcoming animated film Hexed.
Merino did not shut the door on the idea. She said she is still very much open to anything connected to Encanto, calling the 2021 film especially meaningful to her because it was the first movie she produced and because it put a Latino family at the center of the story.

The no sequel update comes even though Encanto became one of Disney’s biggest post release success stories. The film had a modest box office run after the COVID-19 pandemic, then found major popularity on Disney+.
Merino had previously said in 2023 that Disney was exploring different ways to keep the world of Encanto alive for fans. John Leguizamo, who voiced Bruno, also said in 2025 that he would love to see a sequel.
For now, the biggest change for Encanto fans is happening at Walt Disney World. Mirabel Madrigal and her family are set to play a central role in Pueblo Esperanza, the Tropical Americas land in development at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The project is expected to open sometime in 2027.
That expansion will include El Carrusel de los Animalitos, a wood carved carousel featuring animals from Disney films, and Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, the reimagined DINOSAUR attraction. It will also include Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, inspired by the Madrigal family’s Casita. The attraction is set on the day Antonio receives his gift of speaking to animals.
In the post above, Disney Parks said Stephanie Beatriz, Jessica Darrow and Dianne Guerrero will voice their Encanto characters for Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto. The attraction also features Adassa and additional original cast members.
Merino said she is especially excited to see Casita brought to life in Florida, where Disney is building the attraction as part of the new land. So while Encanto 2 is not in the works, the franchise is still getting a very visible next chapter, just not on the big screen.
