Last weekend, his friend group, all in their late 20s to early 30s, kept getting rowdier as the night went on. He reminded them more than once to move their drinks away from the expensive electronics, but the warnings got brushed off like background noise. Then it happened, one friend knocked over a beer and barely missed his gaming console, and suddenly “oops” felt like disrespect.

Now he is stuck wondering if he should end the night and ask everyone to leave after they ignored his boundary.

So I'm (28M) and I have a group of friends (27-30sF/M) that I regularly hang out with. We love hosting game nights at my place, and it's usually a blast.

Last weekend, things got a little out of hand. For background, I have a rule about respecting my home during game nights - no drinks near the gaming setups.

It's a simple rule to prevent accidents or spills on expensive electronics. During the last game night, everyone was pretty drunk, having a good time.

As the night went on, I noticed my friends getting rowdier and not being mindful of their drinks. I reminded them a couple of times about the rule, but it was like they didn't care.

One of my friends accidentally knocked over a beer, narrowly missing my gaming console. That was the final straw for me.

I calmly asked everyone to move their drinks away from the gaming area. They laughed it off and ignored me.

I felt disrespected in my own home. So here's the dilemma - WIBTA if I stopped the game night and asked everyone to leave because they couldn't follow my house rules, even though they were my close friends?

I don't want to be a killjoy, but I also feel like boundaries need to be respected. Really need outside perspective.

He had to repeat the no-drinks-near-the-setup rule more than once while everyone was laughing it off.

This approach not only helps in maintaining a fun environment but also strengthens friendships through open communication. Encouraging a dialogue about boundaries can lead to more respectful interactions in the long run.

The beer spill that narrowly missed his console is the moment the vibe flipped from “fun night” to “are you serious?”

After he calmly asked them to move their drinks, the group’s reaction made it feel less like partying and more like disrespect in his own home.

Additionally, establishing a 'no hard feelings' policy for rule violations can help maintain the spirit of camaraderie. This way, everyone can enjoy the game without fear of harsh repercussions, contributing to a more enjoyable experience overall.

Even the comments start pulling in different directions, one side pushing boundaries, another suggesting a playful “penalty” instead of a full shutdown.
