I (28F) have always been an animal lover, and for years, I've dreamed of adopting a rescue dog to give it a loving home. Recently, I found the perfect match at a local shelter - a sweet, older dog named Lucky who stole my heart.
For some background, my parents (60s) are quite traditional and have never been fond of pets in the house due to perceived mess and noise concerns. They believe animals should live outdoors on a farm, not inside a home.
Despite their reservations, I decided to bring Lucky home with me, believing I could change their minds once they met him. However, upon revealing my adoption, my parents were furious.
They insisted that having a dog indoors would disrupt the peace of the house and cause unnecessary chaos. Now, the situation is tense.
I love Lucky and can't imagine parting with him, but my family's disapproval is weighing heavily on me. I truly believe I'm providing Lucky with a better life, but am I the one causing unnecessary conflict by going against my family's wishes?
So AITA?
