Friend Fakes Sick to Skip Vacation: Am I in the Wrong for Confronting Him?

"Discover the moral dilemma of calling out a friend for possibly faking illness to skip a planned vacation trip in this gripping Reddit post."

Alex didn’t just cancel a vacation, he sold it like an emergency. One minute he’s calling your phone with a “really sick” voice, the next minute you’re scrolling social media and seeing him at a party, totally fine, totally out, totally not sick.

You and Alex, both longtime friends, had been planning this trip for months. You saved up, you made it a whole thing, and the day before you leave, he drops the bomb that he can’t go. You postpone, because you buy the story. Then the photos hit, and the betrayal lands hard.

Now you’re stuck wondering if confronting him is justified or if you’re making a bigger deal out of it than it deserves.

So, I'm (30M) and had been planning this epic vacation trip with my buddy 'Alex' (28M) for months. We both saved up and were super excited about it.

The day before our trip, Alex calls me saying he's really sick and can't go. I was skeptical because he sounded fine on the phone.

Anyway, I decide to postpone the trip. The next day, I see photos of Alex on social media at a party looking totally healthy.

I felt betrayed and lied to. Planning a trip takes time and money, and it felt like Alex ditched me.

I called him out, and he got defensive, saying he felt better after canceling. I'm torn between feeling hurt and thinking maybe it's not that deep.

Should I confront Alex for possibly faking illness or let it slide? So, WIBTA?

Right after Alex calls you from his “sick” day, your whole plan gets paused, and that’s where the trust starts cracking.

The next day, the party photos of Alex looking healthy turn your “maybe it’s nothing” feeling into “wait, what?”

When you confront him and he says he felt better after canceling, the argument shifts from sickness to excuses real fast.

With your money and time already burned on a postponed trip, you have to decide if this is a one-off lie or a pattern worth addressing.

If he faked being sick to dodge the vacation, you’re not crazy for wanting the truth, even if it gets awkward.
