Friends Cat Damaged My Dogs Travel Supplies - AITA for Refusing to Share Again?

AITA for lending my dog's travel supplies to a friend's cat, only to have them ruined?

A 28-year-old woman refused to share her golden retriever’s road-trip gear again after her friend treated it like it was expendable. Max’s travel setup is not random junk, it’s hours of careful picking: a comfy travel bed, spill-proof bowls, and premium treats that make travel days actually enjoyable.

It started with a simple loan. Sarah asked to borrow Max’s supplies for her cat, Luna, because she was taking her on a trip. Sarah promised everything would be handled with care, but when the items came back, they were scratched up, the bowls were ruined, and the treats were missing. Then Sarah laughed it off with the classic “pets will be pets” line and refused to replace anything.

Now OP is stuck balancing friendship drama against the fact that her dog’s travel essentials got wrecked by someone else’s cat.

Original Post

So I'm (28F), and I have a beautiful Golden Retriever named Max. Max is like my baby, and I take him everywhere, including road trips.

I spent hours picking out the perfect travel supplies for him - a comfy travel bed, spill-proof bowls, and premium treats. Last week, my friend Sarah (26F) asked to borrow Max's travel supplies for her cat, Luna, as she was taking Luna on a trip.

I hesitated since these items were specifically chosen for Max, but Sarah assured me she would take good care of them. Reluctantly, I lent her the supplies.

However, a few days later, Sarah returned the supplies in a terrible state. Luna had scratched up the travel bed, the bowls were scratched, and the treats were gone.

I was shocked and upset at how careless Sarah and Luna had been. When I confronted Sarah about the damage, she laughed it off, saying pets will be pets.

I asked her to replace the damaged items, but she refused, saying they were 'just supplies.' Now, I'm torn between wanting to maintain our friendship and feeling like Sarah should take responsibility for the mess Luna made. Am I the a*****e for not sharing my dog's travel supplies after my friend's cat ruined them?

OP didn’t just lend “some stuff,” she handed Sarah Max’s road-trip bed, spill-proof bowls, and a stash of premium treats for Luna’s trip.

It’s the same issue as the AITA poster refusing to share premium pet travel supplies with a careless friend.

When Sarah returned everything scratched and incomplete, the “I’ll take good care of it” promise basically turned into a slap in the face.

OP confronted Sarah about the damage, and Sarah responded by laughing it off and calling it “just supplies.”

That’s when OP had to decide if she should keep sharing after Luna destroyed the exact items meant for Max’s comfort and safety.

Nobody wants to be the friend who replaces everything their pet-damaged guest treats as “just supplies.”

Max’s custom gear drama with Sarah, see if sharing for Luna’s trip was justified.
