Autocorrect Is Almost 20 Years Old And Its Fails Are Never Going To Be Not Hilarious

No, I don't mean "duck" you ducking phone

Autocorrect, as we know it today, was invented in 2005 and introduced on the first iPhone in 2007 by Apple software engineer and designer, Ken Kocienda. It has been an amusing pain in the ass for users ever since.

According to the creator, they weren’t 100% sure that typing on a small touch-sensitive glass keyboard was even technologically possible! Kocienda shared that he “wrote the code for iPhone autocorrection based on an analysis of the words we type most commonly, the frequency of words relative to others, and the errors we’re most likely to make on a touchscreen keyboard.”

“Even with recent advances in AI and machine learning, the core problem remains the same: Software doesn’t understand the nuance of human communication,” Kocienda continues, explaining the ultimate downfall of autocorrect.

Because of the failure to understand the nuance of human communication, there have been countless websites and subreddits alike dedicated to the hilarious autocorrect mishaps.

No matter how many times we’ve encountered an autocorrect mishap ourselves or witnessed the fallout from someone else's autocorrect failure online, there’s no denying that these “corrected” messages will never stop being funny. We’ve gathered 25 hilarious autocorrect tweets to share for your entertainment.

It’s inevitable that there will be another breakthrough in artificial intelligence that will improve upon autocorrect or voice-to-text in the future. The ways we communicate will continue to grow and improve as technology advances.

But who knows when that will be? Our love-to-hate autocorrect will be here until then, suggesting or outright changing our words, for better or worse.
