Boyfriend's Awful Plan to Kidnap His Girlfriend and Then Propose to Her Backfires in a Big Way When His Co-Conspirators Take It Too Far and Make Her Fear for Her Life
What in the actual f*ck were they thinking? They abducted her while she was out on a run, by the way.
A 28-year-old woman, OP, thought she was being kidnapped, and then her boyfriend tried to turn it into a “romantic” surprise by proposing right after. Spoiler, it was not romantic for her, it was terrifying, humiliating, and way, way too real in the moment.
It starts with her screaming for help as they pulled her out of the vehicle, then her mask comes off and she finds herself on her knees in front of him. He’s dressed nicely, his home’s entryway is decorated like a proposal, and OP collapses into sobs because she realizes the setup. The plan gets even uglier when she later describes one of the men taking things too far, touching her sexually while she’s trapped in the middle of someone else’s “joke.”
Even when the truth lands, her body does not instantly reset, and that’s where this story gets scary all over again.
OP screamed for help when they pulled her out of the vehicle
u/Cautious-Rabbit-Finally, her mask was removed. She was on her knees in front of her boyfriend.
u/Cautious-Rabbit-He looked confused and angrily asked his friends what was happening. OP realized he was dressed nicely.

The entryway to his home was also decorated romantically. OP realized what was going on and collapsed into sobs. She had another panic attack.
u/Cautious-Rabbit-
Her boyfriend took her upstairs, where OP showered and changed by herself. She called her sister, who immediately sped to fetch her. OP knows she's not in any real danger, but her body couldn't catch up to what was happening.
u/Cautious-Rabbit-
OP's sister wanted her to file a report with the police
u/Cautious-Rabbit-
The kidnapping plan was taken too literally and too far. They will be charged with false imprisonment if OP decides to press charges.
u/Cautious-Rabbit-
OP thanked everyone for their support. She and her sister were planning to meet her boyfriend around the time she posted the update.

OP's fear was real, even if the situation was a "joke"

Initially, she had no idea that it was all planned. She genuinely thought she was being kidnapped by men who would harm her. It was all real for OP.

That creepy guy running his hands up and down her thighs sexually assaulted her.

The damage to OP and her property is tangible. People she didn't consent to touched her and took away her agency.

This feels like the girlfriend whose boyfriend disappeared mid-date, leaving her panicked and searching.
Even when you learn the truth that you were not in any real danger later on, your brain and body will remain on heightened alert because of your initial response to the situation.

There are apparently studies that show playing Tetris helps the brain process traumatic experiences.

All of those things were real. The facts will not change or erase how OP felt in those moments.
Principessa-
None of what happened to her was okay.

OP's life moving forward will not be the same after what happened to her. They knowingly traumatized her.
Cautious-Rabbit-
She is definitely going to need therapy as soon as possible.

Her mind and body are still in panic mode, even though she knows she is in a safe location.
Cautious-Rabbit-
The outpouring of support and horror on her behalf reached OP. She posted an update after a few weeks.
Momofthewild-3
OP accepted her boyfriend's proposal. They are working on her healing.
u/Cautious-Rabbit-
OP is still consulting with her lawyer, but she doesn't think she will pursue charges against her abductors.
u/Cautious-Rabbit-
Her update was not as well received as OP thought. Redditors had a lot to say.
u/Cautious-Rabbit-
They urged her to reconsider her decision not to press charges.

Even her boyfriend's original plan, if it had been followed, was in poor taste, to put it mildly.

That first scream for help, before her mask even came off, is what made the whole thing feel like real danger, not a prank.
Once OP realizes her boyfriend is behind it, the confusion turns into panic, especially when she sees the romantically decorated entryway and her own collapse into sobs.
Then it gets worse when OP mentions a creepy guy running his hands up and down her thighs, because the “proposal plan” stops being harmless immediately.
Her sister rushing over and pushing OP to file a report, plus the threat of false imprisonment charges, is the part that makes everyone rethink how far they took it.
I personally couldn't see myself continuing a relationship with a person who would abduct me as a prank. I was angry on OP's behalf because what she went through was completely unavoidable.
May she have a strong support system moving forward, as it will take a long time for her to fully process the events of that Friday morning. Friends, pretending to kidnap your significant other to propose to them is never a good idea.
He wanted a proposal moment, but he accidentally created a situation that could cost him everything.
