Star Wars Fans Get New Force Lore in The Fall of Kylo Ren Comic
The Fall of Kylo Ren gives the Knights of Ren new Force terms, reviving lore debate with The Shine, The Shadow and Radiant.
Star Wars lore watchers have another new set of Force terms to pick apart. For fans who remember the arguments around The Acolyte, the latest shift comes from The Fall of Kylo Ren, where Charles Soule gives the Knights of Ren their own language for the Force.
The Knights of Ren now have their own Force vocabulary
In the comic, the Knights refer to the light side as “The Shine” and the dark side as “The Shadow.” Soule had already established “The Shadow” in an earlier story featuring the group, and The Fall of Kylo Ren #3 adds another label when the Knights call someone “Radiant,” apparently their term for a Force-sensitive person.
That gives one of the sequel era’s least-explained groups a clearer belief system. The series covers the stretch between Episode VIII: The Last Jedi and Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, a period the films mostly left offscreen while Ben Solo and the Knights were active. On screen, the Knights were mostly used as presence and imagery before Ben Solo killed them on Exegol. The comic instead suggests they operated with ideas and terminology separate from both the Jedi and the Sith.

Why longtime fans may hear an echo of The Acolyte
The new wording arrives after Lucasfilm already tested another alternative view of the Force in The Acolyte. Created by Leslye Headland for Disney+ and set about a century before Episode I: The Phantom Menace near the end of the High Republic era, the 2024 series introduced a coven of Force witches on Brendok led by Mother Aniseya. Their term was “the Thread,” described as a single strand that could be pulled, woven and shared, rather than a power split into two opposing halves. Within the show, the Jedi treated that idea as another tradition studying the same power.
Outside the show, a vocal part of the audience said The Acolyte was changing established lore. Complaints often focused on the Thread, the coven’s apparent ability to create life through the Force, and the series’ depiction of the Jedi. Lucasfilm later announced in August 2024 that the show would not return for a second season, leaving its cliffhangers unresolved. Another link has since been confirmed: Qimir was effectively the first Knight of Ren.
That connection makes the comic’s terminology stand out even more. “The Shine” and “The Shadow,” like “the Thread,” are presented as one group’s interpretation, not a replacement for the franchise’s usual definitions. The Fall of Kylo Ren is available now in comic shops and through digital retailers. After that, the next major live-action stop for this side of Star Wars mythology is expected to be Ahsoka Season 2, which Dave Filoni has indicated will explore the Mortis Gods.
