Redditor Gets Together With His Old Friend and Ends Up Getting Scammed
"You know the difference between a guitarist and a large pizza? The pizza can feed a family of four."
Some reunions start with a warm message and end with a bill nobody wants to pay. That is exactly what happened to one Redditor after an old friend reached out, asked to reconnect, and ended up turning a casual visit into a messy scam. What seemed like a simple night out quickly turned awkward when the group left him stuck with an expensive bar tab he never agreed to cover.
Now OP is left dealing with the fallout, and the whole story gets even messier from there. Read on.
This is how OP f*cked up
LackedSaucer938An old friend of OP contacted him and expressed a desire to see him
LackedSaucer938That reunion started off harmless enough.
OP enjoyed spending time with the friend, but they had to separate since OP had to work
LackedSaucer938
OP suggested that they should go to a bar with her friend before she had to leave the following week
LackedSaucer938
Then the night out took a weird turn.
Things started to look sketchy
LackedSaucer938
They found another bar to stay at, and they agreed that they should split the bill as well as pay for their own indulgences
LackedSaucer938
It was going okay until the girl's friend left. The ones who remained made an excuse to get her before taking OP to their place
LackedSaucer938
They abandoned him. OP explained that he wouldn't be able to pay for anything other than his beer and share of the food
LackedSaucer938
That is when the bill became everyone else's problem except theirs.
Many people helped OP, including the bassist, but he couldn't cover the bill either
LackedSaucer938
The girls were aware of OP's situation, yet they still scammed him
LackedSaucer938
OP couldn't contact the girl anymore, but his father found a way
LackedSaucer938
OP's girlfriend also helped him get out of the sticky situation
LackedSaucer938
The mention of the wedding raised everyone's suspicions

That would have made for one heck of a TIFU title

Reddit did not exactly let that slide.
This is right up there with the friend who refused to pay back the trip money, and the AITA fallout.
People on Reddit expressed their distaste for their actions and wanted to see them called out for it
Peelboy
OP replied, and there wasn't even a reason given for their actions other than that they simply wanted to

This Redditor, who got scammed, took his call-out to another level
Ranik_Sandaris
If what they did went viral or public, they might not do it again for fear of getting caught
ThatGirlWithTheWalk
This Redditor offered a bright side to the situation
StaticX27
At least the bassist attempted to help
HilariousSpill
OP understands why he couldn't pay the bill
LackedSaucer938
When they contact OP again, he could block them faster than they can type 'hello'

This story, similar to what OP went through, shows how often this happens to many people
STXman89
It's not bad to be trusting as long as you remain vigilant as well
RicktatorshipRulez
OP could have involved the authorities

With OP's comments, what mattered was that he would never trust her again and that he would be reimbursed for what he spent. He was struggling to save up after all.
The positive aspect of this story is the number of people who were willing to help him if they could, including the bassist in the bar. Hopefully, even if OP didn't want to publicly expose the women, they would be stopped from scamming others.
What do you think should happen to the women who scammed OP? Should OP spread the word more about what they did?
Some favors come with a very expensive lesson.
Wait, it gets worse than the friend who spent rent money on a concert, should they repay it?
