Wife Is Upset When Her Still-Sedated Husband Asks For His Mom After Recovering From Surgery
OP felt her presence, effort, and patience should have been acknowledged first.
If we learned anything from the countless medical dramas that have been and are on TV, it is that Hollywood surgeries and real-life surgeries are vastly different. First of all, not all doctors are that good-looking; second, services aren't that urgent; and third, you don't recover from major surgery that quickly.
A Redditor who perhaps has seen one too many episodes of Grey's Anatomy recently found herself in the middle of a hospital drama. OP's (original poster) husband needed surgery, and she waited for him along with his mother.
Unfortunately, the two of them had been having minor disagreements lately. They didn't speak to each other the whole time while in the hospital, except when her mother-in-law offered her coffee, which OP declined.
When her husband was in recovery, a nurse informed the two concerned women that only one of them could go see the patient since he was still recovering from the anesthesia. OP understood from the conversation that her husband woke up calling for his mother.
His mom gladly went in to see her son, which irritated OP. She felt as if her hours of waiting for him and stressing out had been ignored.
The nurse, sensing and probably seeing OP's reaction, reiterated that he was still not fully awake from the surgery and was just randomly calling for his mom.
The nurse was heavily suggesting that OP shouldn't get worked up over this since her husband had not fully regained control of his senses.
Still, she felt annoyed and wanted to go home. Ten minutes later, OP was out of the hospital and headed straight home.
Sometime later, her mother-in-law called her, saying she had stepped out of the room early to give OP a chance to see her husband, but she was nowhere to be found. The mother-in-law said this was not okay and that OP was acting too extremely for no apparent reason.
OP petulantly replied that she was irritated because he acted like she wasn't there. Her husband's mother said she was being unfair to him and that she was just punishing him in her place due to their recent disagreements.
The unreasonable wife ended the call after hearing that because she felt like she was being blamed for being unacknowledged and ignored—her words, not ours. Later that day, OP's father-in-law messaged her, saying she was being hostile over nothing and advised OP to focus on her husband's health instead of acting petty.
throwaway5tkl5466OP doesn't think she was petty for how she behaved. Do you agree with her? Read her original post below:

The nurse told her this, but OP chose to stay salty.

Also, why was it so wrong for a son to look for his mom when he physically went through something traumatic?
Stitch-point
Soon enough, perhaps to show OP how messed up one can be after sedatives, people started to share their own stories.

A Redditor admitted that when her husband failed to recognize her after a seizure, she cried a lot but knew she shouldn't take it personally.

Her father-in-law was right; OP was just being hostile and petty for no good reason.
bonbam
Her husband wasn't fully coherent and just wanted someone to comfort him; his instincts kicked in, and he looked for his mom. If she truly cared, OP would have stayed.

Anesthesia has a strong effect hours after surgery, causing some people to search for their pets.

Some even look for their childhood furry pals.

You shouldn't really take what they say seriously...

... like human-sized Nazi hamsters?

Some are just sweet, like this guy who didn't recognize his wife at first and reacted as if it was the first time he was seeing her.

It is possible that OP hasn't experienced the aftereffects of anesthesia firsthand.

OP sounds like a delight!

We join the growing clamor for OP to grow up.

She doesn't even want to acknowledge she did anything petty. WOW.
catcat712
The story doesn't read like a wife concerned for her husband's health because OP just made it about her.
DryLengthiness5574
The way she told the story didn't really make her look good, and it's not surprising that she was the a**hole here.

Yet another nurse tried to enlighten OP...

... she really should take a long, hard look at the way she behaved.

OP replied to some comments, but they were all downvoted to hell because she showed no enlightenment or any sense of remorse about the way she behaved. We do wonder how her husband reacted after learning about all of this from his mom.
We are certain if OP were to tell the story to her husband, she would somehow cast herself as the victim and make him apologize for the anesthesia fog he was under. OP should get her eyes checked because she is definitely not seeing things clearly.
