Should I Remove My Brother from Spotify Premium for My Cousin?

AITA for wanting to remove my brother from our shared Spotify premium account to make space for my cousin who really needs it, even though my brother refuses to kick anyone out and is no longer contributing financially?

Some families treat Spotify Premium like it’s a group chat, until one person’s life gets messy and the playlist math starts breaking.

Here’s the situation, OP has been paying for a family Spotify plan because their brother set it up about two years ago, then moved to Russia and can’t keep paying. The plan has only six spots, and the brother already invited four friends, leaving two spots for OP and OP’s friend, which OP now wants to swap so their cousin can get in too.

What makes it extra tense, the brother refuses to kick anyone, and OP is left wondering if stopping payments would make them the bad guy.

Sup reddit, I will try to make long story short. My brother bought a family subscribe to Spotify about 2 years ago and payed for it almost all of this time, now he is in Russia and can’t pay for it.

Therefore i’m paying it for last half of an year. He invited 4 of his friends and last 2 spots are taking me and my friend.

So the problem is that there are only 6 spots and i really want to add my cousin, and he really needs it. I talked to my brother and he said that there is no way he is kicking someone.

I tried to convince him but he said “no” in a very rude form. Will i be an a*****e if i will no longer pay for subscription and subscribe to a new one.

btw he added me when he got it. edited: Thank u guys for replies.

Making some annotations. My cousin is also from Russia.

He needs it because he loves music and since Spotify is banned in Russia, there are no good platforms. Yes, i do have my own account.

No, won’t share it with anyone.

That “don’t invite them” Spotify spot problem feels like the mom who excluded critical in-laws from a family reunion.

OP is basically covering the bill for half a year, while the brother is in Russia and acting like the lineup is untouchable.

The brother already added OP when he got the plan, so OP’s trying to figure out if that “favor” comes with strings.

Since Spotify is banned in Russia, OP’s cousin “really needs it,” which turns a simple subscription decision into a family standoff.

And when the brother answers “no” in a rude way, OP has to decide whether to keep paying or quietly cut the cord.

OP might not be wrong for wanting one more seat, but the cousin request is about to turn into a family feud over a login.
