Declassified CIA Files Detail UFO Encounter That Allegedly 'Turned Soldiers to Stone'
According to the document, 23 soldiers were transformed into limestone.
Governments around the world have long declassified files that pull back the curtain on strange events, but few are as hard to swallow as this one. In 1991, when the Soviet Union fell apart, a secret 250-page KGB dossier slipped into CIA hands.
Buried inside was a brief, eerie report of a UFO “mishap” during a routine military exercise in Ukraine—one that, if true, left more than twenty soldiers literally turned to stone. According to the newly posted document on the CIA’s website, the incident began when a “low-flying spaceship in the shape of a saucer” hovered over a group of Soviet troops.
Mistaking it for a threat, or perhaps acting on standing orders, the soldiers fired a missile that sent the craft crashing not far from their position. The report states that five “short humanoids with large heads and black eyes” climbed out of the wreckage and, astonishingly, “merged into a single force that was spherical in shape.”
Survivors say the merged form didn’t attack right away. Instead, it hummed and glowed. “That object began to buzz and hiss sharply, and then became brilliant white,” the report quotes one of the witnesses. Within seconds, the spheres expanded and exploded in blinding light.
At that very moment, twenty-three soldiers who were standing in the open field “turned into… stone poles.” Only two soldiers, who happened to be in the shade, escaped unscathed.
The aliens reportedly coalesced into a massive orb of brilliant light.
After the blast, those two soldiers collected the petrified remains of their comrades and the scattered fragments of the UFO. They transported everything to a classified research facility near Moscow.
Tests reportedly showed that an unknown form of energy instantaneously transformed living tissue into a substance remarkably similar to limestone. As one unnamed CIA official put it, the scene was “a horrific picture of revenge on the part of extraterrestrial creatures, a picture that makes one’s blood freeze.”
“If the KGB file corresponds to reality, this is an extremely menacing case,” the same official added. “The aliens possess such weapons and technology that go beyond all our assumptions. They can stand up for themselves if attacked.”

The release of this dossier comes just as UFO expert Jeremy Corbell warns of other strange sightings off the California coast. Corbell, who has investigated numerous reports, pointed to a recent video that seems to show a wingless, tailless craft emerging from the ocean to target the USS Jackson.
He suggests that these objects might be based in an underwater facility near California. “It’s become a working theory among people close to this that there’s an underwater base or installation off the California coast,” Corbell said.

Yet skepticism remains. Former CIA agent Mike Baker told Fox News Digital that, even if something happened, the dramatic story on the CIA website probably doesn’t match the original report.
“If there was an incident, regardless of the nature of the incident, I suspect that the actual report doesn’t look much like what has now come out from five or six or seven iterations of what originally was [written],” he said. “I just don’t think that they landed decades ago, turned Soviet soldiers into limestone, and we’re just now hearing about it. I don’t think that’s the case.”

Understanding the Phenomenon
UFO encounters have often been subject to skepticism, yet credible investigations continue to emerge. Dr. J. Allen Hynek, a renowned astrophysicist and former consultant to the U.S. Air Force, emphasized the importance of scientific inquiry into these phenomena, stating that ‘the first step is to gather data and analyze it systematically’.
His research laid the groundwork for the modern study of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). As noted on The Ufologist, many military personnel report experiences that challenge conventional explanations, urging a need for open-minded investigation.
Prof. Michio Kaku, a theoretical physicist, discusses the implications of advanced technology potentially being misinterpreted as extraterrestrial encounters. He suggests that ‘what we see might merely be advanced military technology or natural atmospheric phenomena' rather than UFOs.
To bridge the gap between skepticism and belief, he advocates for establishing interdisciplinary research teams that include scientists, historians, and psychologists to explore these cases more thoroughly. This multifaceted approach could better address and understand such extraordinary claims in a rational context.
For those who pore over declassified files, this KGB dossier is as chilling as it gets. Whether you believe in extraterrestrial retribution or chalk it up to Cold War propaganda, the idea of a bright flash turning men to stone is hard to shake.
And even if the truth lies somewhere in between, sometimes the most unbelievable stories come straight from official archives—leftover fragments of the past that challenge everything we think we know.
Understanding the Deeper Patterns
The newly declassified CIA files raise more questions than answers, spurring both curiosity and skepticism. Experts like Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett, an emotion researcher, highlight that human emotions play a significant role in how we interpret extraordinary events. She explains that fear often leads to misinterpretation of unfamiliar experiences.
To improve public understanding, transparent communication from governmental institutions is essential. Engaging communities through workshops or public forums can foster open dialogue, allowing for a balanced approach to understanding such phenomena while addressing public curiosity responsibly.
