Son Whose Dad Was Held Captive by the Gestapo for Resisting Nazis Shares 8 Lessons His Dad Taught Him
These are truly priceless lessons.
In 1940, shortly after the beginning of World War II, the resistance against the Nazi regime began in Norway. Until the German capitulation in Europe at the beginning of May 1945, Norway was under Nazi-German control.
Norwegian resistance took many forms during the occupation. The government managed to escape capture after the initial defense in Southern Norway, and soon after, legitimacy was asserted through commando raids, sabotage, assassinations, civil disobedience, and unarmed resistance.
Unfortunately, everyone who dared to join the resistance was punished severely, and Tor Ekeland's father was among those individuals. Tor is a lawyer based in Brooklyn, New York, who kindly shared the captivating story of the lessons his father learned while in Gestapo captivity as a member of the Norwegian Resistance.
