Squid Game Season 2 Trailer Teases New Game And The Return Of The Show's Unforgettable Doll

Full of colorful visuals, an intriguing premise, and impeccable acting, Squid Game was the most-watched Netflix series in 2021. It was streamed a whopping 1.65 billion hours (an equivalent of 188,356.16 years!) within the first 28 days of its launch.

To recap: in the last episode of the first season, "One Lucky Day," the two remaining contenders, Gi-hun and Sang-woo, fight until only one remains. Gi-hun refuses to end Sang-woo's life.

He begs Sang-woo to agree with him that they should invoke the third clause. If they agree to stop the competition, the game ends with both of them alive.

However, Sang-woo took matters into his own hands and ended his life after asking Gi-hun to care for his mother. Victorious but traumatized, Gi-hun is returned to Seoul with his prize money.

He discovers his mother's death and refuses to use any of his winnings even a year later. Gi-hun receives an invitation from Oh Il-nam, a contestant he thought had died during the games.

Il-nam reveals to Gi-hun that he is the mastermind of the Squid Games. He created it to entertain other wealthy people and adapted the games he grew up playing into dangerous versions.

On his way to Los Angeles, Gi-hun encounters the same game recruiter from a year ago who is looking for a new set of players. Gi-hun gets in touch with the Front Man, who orders him to board his plane, but Gi-hun ends the call and returns to the terminal instead.

The second season's highly anticipated trailer opened with Gi-hun (sans red hair) seemingly woken by an unexpected knock on his door.

He opens the door holding a gun and is surprised to see the unwelcome sight of the Front Man.

The show's iconic colorful set also makes a comeback this season teeming with ominous pink-clad workers.

The guards, intimidating as ever, were highlighted in the teaser released by Netflix.

The piggy bank was also shown as it was filled with cash, ready for the next cash-strapped victor to claim its contents.

Gi-hun retains the number he was assigned during his first time in the games.

We get a glimpse of the dormitory where players rest in between the life-or-death stages of the games.

A preview of one of the stages was shown. The colorful non-intersecting rainbow circles in this context do not evoke hope or joy.

In a few months, Squid Game Season 2 will unveil the horrors they devised for this year's batch of desperate players.

One of the bigger questions the teaser left is who is this guard? Pink guards with a square icon on their masks were shown last season. The black uniform is new and seems more threatening.

Fan theories and frame-by-frame analysis about the second season have popped up since the teaser's release. One of their main light-hearted speculations was about Gi-hun's missing red hair — considering the premise of the show, the fixation on his red hair seemed inconsequential.

It remains to be seen if Squid Game season 2 will attract as many viewers as the first season after the controversies surrounding a few members of its cast. Be on the lookout for any new teasers and don't gamble with random strangers when you're having money issues.
