Children’s minds are amazing

Kids are awesome. They are goofy, silly, cute, and totally clueless about the world they live in. Because they are so eager to understand it, they come up with the most wonderful ideas. They are never bored, and they don’t let anyone around them get bored either. Oh, how much we all miss that time.

To understand how children think and come up with the most unbelievable ideas that we, as grown-ups, would never consider, we must look at the world from a child's perspective. It is entirely different from ours.

One of the guiding forces in a child's development is inquisitiveness, which drives them to discover, try new things, and learn.

Brenna Hassinger-Das, a psychology assistant professor at Pace University in New York, explained that a child's job is "to play and learn." However, adults should also dedicate time to be curious and playful.

"Research suggests that this relates to satisfaction, happiness, empathy, and problem-solving skills," Hassinger-Das said, adding, "We are always in need of refining the ways in which we view the world."

“Parents can nurture curiosity in many different ways. For instance, encouraging children to engage in free or unstructured play allows them to figure out how things work and develop their own storylines and directions for their play.”

The professor emphasized that it’s important to “encourage children to ask questions (and then answer them in a developmentally appropriate way) and to let children follow their interests. If your child loves animals, go for a nature walk in your area (whether in a city or a more rural setting) and point out all the animals you see. You could also read books about the animals they like and perhaps venture out a bit further for a hike.”

Encouraging curiosity early can help a child develop a habit that will continue into adulthood. “We know that curiosity is still important for learning and overall life satisfaction,” the professor concluded.
