Teen Refuses to Cross Road with Stranger Due to Medical Needs, Faces Verbal Abuse: AITA?
AITA for refusing to help an older man cross the road due to my own medical needs, leading to him berating me with slurs?
A 16-year-old kid in London just wanted to get across the road safely, and instead got verbally attacked like he’d personally committed a crime.
The man was about 52, showed up with a stick, and when the teen wouldn’t walk alongside him, the stranger started swearing and shouting. He allegedly called the teen the F-word and S-word, turning a basic boundary into a public meltdown.
Now the teen is stuck wondering if he was the a-hole, even though his reason was medical.

This also echoes the landlord ultimatum and the fight over Mittens, the beloved cat.

This all starts with the teen refusing to cross with the man in London because of his medical needs, and the stranger immediately takes it personally.
When the 52-year-old shows up with a stick and starts shouting, the situation stops being about crossing the street and turns into straight-up abuse.
The teen, just trying to manage his medical needs, gets hit with the F-word and S-word, which makes the “who’s wrong here?” question way messier.
With commenters weighing in on whether refusing to cross was reasonable or “rude,” the original post becomes less about traffic rules and more about basic safety boundaries.
What do you think about this situation? Let us know in the comments.
The teen did not owe anyone a road crossing, especially not after the swearing started.
Wondering how trust and boundaries collide, read what happened when someone refused to rehome Mittens after a landlord ultimatum.
