Overweight Woman's Video Explaining How She Was Brutally Criticized For Marrying A "Physically Fit Man" Goes Viral
"We’ve been made to believe that someone who is physically fit like Scott could never in a million years be in love with or compatible with a fat woman"
People still enjoy making fun of those who don't exactly match their pre-determined beauty standards in today's "modern" culture. Unfortunately, the internet is the ideal hunting ground for individuals who are too cowardly to say things directly to people's faces, no matter how hard we try to appear supportive.
When our mothers said, "They bully you because they're envious," they weren't lying. That may be the most accurate advice my mother has ever given me.
People's insecurities are very obvious, especially when they project them onto someone who is completely minding their own business. Unfortunately, Alicia McCarvell, a TikTok influencer, was one of many who fell prey to such grave projections. As Dr. Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist, states, "People often project their insecurities onto others, especially in environments where they feel safe to do so, like social media" (helenfisher.com).
The TikToker posted a video of herself and her husband, McCarvell, dressed up for an event, only for a woman to message her husband, Scott, suggesting that "he should be with someone who looks like" her instead of McCarvell. Due to the strict beauty standards they had been raised with, others were putting her down.

McCarvell, who boasts a staggering 4.9 million followers, shared a TikTok on a beautiful Sunday of her and her husband looking joyful and gorgeous
aliciamccarvellThe following Tuesday, she published a follow-up video in which she discussed the message Scott received and the abuse she endured. In the second video, McCarvell claimed that she and Scott "don't make sense" by conventional standards of beauty and that the public values her fit husband more highly than she does.
Alicia gently revealed the reasons why people treat her the way they do
aliciamccarvellIt's very bizarre for someone to have to justify their own successful relationship, don't you think? McCarvell claims that in response to the hate posted on her video of her and her husband, people have tried to undermine either Scott (one comment implied that Scott must be gay) or her (another implied that she must have employed him as an "escort").

If you take anything away from Alicia and Scott, let it be that not everyone who doesn't meet your standards is unhappy. My mother also gave me this final piece of advice: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
