Woman's Date Plays A Cruel Game With Their Waitress's Tip So She Decides To Tip Her Anyway And Cuts Ties With The Guy
Big spoiler: the date is an a**hole
Foodservice industry workers really do see the best, but mostly the worst, sides of humanity. Not only is the pay inhumane, but they also have to smile and be polite to people who don't have the decency to treat them like humans in the hopes of getting generous tips.
Despite all their effort and cheerful attitude, some customers are just jerks and don't deserve their service. Like this woman's date, who decided it was the perfect time to fully bloom into the sh*t flower that he is.
OP (original poster) met a guy on a dating app, and they hit it off immediately. In no time, they were on their first date, and things seemed to be going smoothly.
Their waitress came over to their table to ask for their orders. OP quickly decided what she wanted and gestured for her date to do the same.
He ordered and abruptly pulled out around $15 in bills, telling their waitress, "This is your tip. Every time you mess up, I take some away." The waitress tensed up and looked nervous.
OP was shocked by her date's behavior, and she was mortified by this unexpected turn of events. Throughout their meal, their nervous waitress spilled some drinks, served them the wrong food, and overall looked unsure; OP deduced that she was new to the job.
All of her mistakes meant that OP's jerk of a date took away $13 from the original tip he planned on giving her. OP asked him why he thought playing games with the tip was a good idea.
He answered that it was the best way to ensure they got good service. Needless to say, OP disagreed with her date's convoluted reasoning.
After hearing OP's disagreement, the date said, and we quote: "Can't always be nice to these people; it's not a respectable job."
Big, massive, neon red flag! OP decided she wanted nothing to do with this guy, and she called their waitress over for the bill.
OP gave the waitress $20 for her tip and stood up to pay for her meal. Later that night, OP's date demanded to know why she tipped her that much despite the "poor" service.
OP replied it's because of him and his decision to treat the woman's livelihood like it was a game. The douche, of course, retaliated that it's now OP's fault if that waitress never improves and that OP is just a people pleaser.
She has since blocked the biggest jerk on the planet she had the misfortune of dating. OP still wonders if she's the a**hole because she's unsure she did the right thing.

Whatever his job is, it doesn't really make a difference. He's still a prick.

His audacity to play this game over a $20 tip? Laughable.

He couldn't even make it past the first hour of the date without showing who he is

If you have the unfortunate luck of being on a date with a similar person, just walk away

Good on OP for cutting off that guy

Seriously, don't be like OP's date. No one, no matter the job, deserves that kind of inhumane treatment.
You can't treat another person's job, their respectable way of earning a living, like a game because you somehow think you're above them. What OP's date did is a good way to get someone to punch you in the face.
