Redditor Had Been Using An Air Purifier For Five Years Only To Find Out He Didn’t Set It Up Properly
"Holy sh*t... I am f*cking stupid"
There are a lot of stories online about people posting how much they hilariously screwed up. Every day, thousands of people share their ‘I-messed-up’ moments, and it’s there for others to either laugh about or learn from them.
So it’s really convenient if you’re in the same situation and they realize their mistakes ahead of you, preventing you from making the same ones. Take this Redditor, for example.
OP posted about their story under the subreddit r/TIFU. If you closely follow the posts there, you can see why it’s very appropriate for them to share in that category. OP started recounting their chronic asthma and the many ways they tried to live with it.
No matter how hard they tried, OP’s bedroom seemed to trigger their condition. They tried everything from vacuuming regularly to changing mattress covers, but still, they couldn’t go on without using their inhaler throughout the night.
Then a friend suggested that they should invest in air purifiers, as it might help OP get the air circulated and cleaned. OP followed the suggestion from their friend, but it didn’t help much.
OP decided that even if the purifier wasn’t making a difference in solving their problem, they would still run it. Then, after five years, they noticed a button on the purifier while making their bed, and that’s how they found out that they had made a stupid mistake.
This is OP's TIFU post

OP’s condition had gotten better, and they thanked the stars that they decided to keep using the air purifier.

Then OP noticed the filter change button on the purifier and realized their mistake of not replacing it; however, when they opened the purifier, they made a bigger mistake: not removing the plastic film that it came with.
Apparently, they had been using the filter with that on, so it wasn’t exactly working as it should have for the past five years.

It is surprising that the air purifier lasted five years and never once broke down.

Apparently, it’s a recommended legitimate tip, especially for those who live in the same place as OP.

This Redditor played the game long before trendy air purifiers.

While this one proposed to modify the inconsistencies.

But then, apparently, your pets can join in too.

OP’s asthma did get a lot better, but if you’re still someone who’s suffering from allergies, this might help.

OP might’ve just saved a lot of people from making the same mistake.

OP’s hilarious post could be other people’s saving grace from committing the same mistake. Air purifiers have become more of a staple fixture in most people’s homes nowadays, so it’s better to have more information about them.
There are a lot of options on what to buy and what would be good in the long run. As long as you don’t forget to change the filter, you’ll be good to go.
Have you had one of these moments like OP? We’d love to hear your stories in the comments.
