Am I Wrong for Setting Boundaries with my Overbearing Friend During Pregnancy?
"Seeking autonomy during my pregnancy journey led to conflict with my overbearing friend - AITA for setting boundaries? #PregnancyJourney #FriendshipDilemma"
Pregnancy is already a lot, even when everything goes “normally.” For one Redditor, the hardest part is not the morning sickness or the mood swings, it is the friend who shows up like a co-pilot and refuses to stop touching the controls.
The OP, 30, says her close friend Sarah has been supportive in the past, but lately she is overbearing about every choice, from unsolicited advice to critiques that land like judgment. Sarah also insists on tagging along to every single doctor appointment, which turns what should feel personal into something that feels monitored.
One boundary talk later, and the guilt is creeping in, because Sarah stormed out.

I (30F) have a close friend, let's call her Sarah. So, for context, I'm currently on a pregnancy journey and like most expecting moms, I'm going through a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences.
Sarah has always been supportive, but lately, she's become incredibly overbearing about every aspect of my pregnancy. She constantly bombards me with unsolicited advice, critiques my choices, and insists on accompanying me to every single doctor's appointment.
It's starting to feel suffocating. I appreciate her care and concern, but it's gotten to a point where I feel like she's taking over my pregnancy journey.
I want to make my own decisions and enjoy this special time without feeling like I'm constantly under scrutiny. So, the other day, I finally mustered up the courage to talk to Sarah about how I'm feeling.
I gently explained that while I value her friendship, I need some space and autonomy during this period. I kindly asked her to dial back on the overwhelming advice and involvement.
However, Sarah did not take it well. She became defensive, accusing me of pushing her away and not appreciating her efforts to support me.
Things got heated, and she ended up storming out of our conversation, leaving me feeling guilty for speaking up about my boundaries. Now, I'm torn.
Was I the one at fault here for setting boundaries with my friend during my pregnancy journey? I value her friendship, but I also want to cherish this experience on my own terms.
So, AITA?

This is similar to the AITA post where OP asked a well-meaning friend to ease up on oversharing pregnancy advice.

OP finally worked up the courage to tell Sarah she needs space and autonomy, and it sounded calm… until it wasn’t.
Instead of taking “please dial it back” as reassurance, Sarah heard it as rejection during their heated conversation.
The moment Sarah accused OP of pushing her away, the pregnancy support dynamic flipped into a full-on fight.
Now OP is stuck replaying the doctor-appointment insisting, the advice bombardment, and the dramatic storm-out, wondering who’s actually wrong.

OP wasn’t wrong for wanting her pregnancy back, but Sarah definitely made that boundary feel like a breakup.
