Woman Slams Boyfriend For Planning To Attend Female Coworker’s Halloween Party During Her NYC Marathon Weekend
She’s about to run 26.2 miles but he’s focused on a party with someone she’s never met
A woman (OP) recently posted about feeling sidelined by her partner during what should be an important milestone in her life.
OP revealed that she finally got accepted into the NYC Marathon through a very difficult lottery.
She and her boyfriend (who have been dating for five months) booked the trip together.
They planned to share a hotel room with her parents, flying in from Florida to watch her run. In addition, her best friend from college is also coming.
Seventeen days before the marathon, her boyfriend gets invited to a Halloween party in NYC by a coworker who also lives in Chicago but will be there that weekend.
On finding out about this invite, she made it clear she won’t attend parties because of the marathon.
However, he asked if her friend might want to go, or if he could go alone. This came off as rather upsetting, as she didn’t understand why he was so eager to attend.
OP explained that she’d been training for 21 weeks and created an entire itinerary for them and her family during this trip.
Her boyfriend argued that there’s free time in the itinerary, which he could use to attend the Halloween party.
Despite this point being valid, OP still has other issues with this party. His coworker is female, and she has never met this woman before, despite living in Chicago with them.
According to OP, she’s not being controlling; he can see friends anytime in Chicago. But this is her marathon weekend, and she wants to be prioritized.

This situation centers on expectations around support during a significant personal achievement.
OP sees the weekend as entirely about celebrating her marathon after months of training and securing a spot through a competitive lottery.
On the other hand, her boyfriend sees free time on the schedule as an opportunity to accept a social invitation that happens to overlap.
The discomfort about the female coworker she’s never met adds complexity, though whether that’s the primary issue or secondary to feeling deprioritized is unclear.
