Why Magic Kingdom's Usual Nighttime Finale Disappears for Two Nights This December

Magic Kingdom will replace Happily Ever After on Dec. 30 and 31, with New Year's fireworks also planned at EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

Guests planning a year end visit to Walt Disney World have a notable fireworks change to know before they pick a park. Magic Kingdom is taking Happily Ever After off the schedule for the final two nights of December and substituting a New Year's show instead.

Magic Kingdom swaps out Happily Ever After on December 30 and 31

The change begins on December 30 and continues on December 31, affecting visitors who expected Magic Kingdom's usual nighttime spectacular. Happily Ever After, the castle centered show built around fireworks, projections, lasers and Disney music, will not run on those two dates.

In its place, Disney has scheduled Fantasy in the Sky, a returning fireworks presentation tied to the park's New Year's celebration. It will be shown twice each night, at 6:30 p.m. and 11:50 p.m., giving guests four chances to catch it across the two evenings.

That matters most for guests who specifically want Happily Ever After, since they will need to plan around the holiday calendar. Disney is not ending the show permanently. This is a limited holiday replacement.

The timing also gives families options. Visitors with younger children can choose the earlier performance rather than stay for a near midnight show. Guests who want the late night countdown atmosphere can aim for the 11:50 p.m. presentation. And because December 30 and December 31 share the same listed Magic Kingdom showtimes, seeing Fantasy in the Sky does not require a New Year's Eve visit.

Other parks also have New Year's fireworks, but planning will matter

Magic Kingdom is not the only park with special nighttime entertainment for the holiday. At Disney's Hollywood Studios, New Year Countdown Fireworks are scheduled for December 31 at 11:57 p.m., giving guests there a way to ring in 2027 without leaving the park.

EPCOT has two fireworks offerings on December 31. Luminous The Symphony of Us is listed for 6:30 p.m., earlier than its usual evening slot. Later that night, Cheers to the New Year: A Sparkling Celebration is scheduled for 11:54 p.m. around World Showcase Lagoon.

For guests deciding where to spend the holiday, the biggest practical issue may be crowd levels and movement between parks. Popular viewing areas can fill well before showtime, and late night transportation can be complicated by heavy attendance and possible capacity restrictions. Main Street, U.S.A. and the Cinderella Castle hub are common gathering points at Magic Kingdom, while EPCOT viewers often line the lagoon.

Anyone visiting on December 30 or 31 should leave extra time for security and transportation, pick a viewing area early, and keep an eye on My Disney Experience for updates. Weather can affect outdoor entertainment, and posted times may change.
