Neighbor upset after baker refuses to share secret holiday cookie recipe - AITA?
AITA for not sharing my coveted holiday cookie recipe with my neighbor's baking class? The clash of tradition vs. generosity sparks a neighborhood debate.
A 28-year-old woman runs baking classes at her community center, and her holiday cookies are basically neighborhood currency. People show up for the warm trays, the buttery smell, and the “how is this so good?” factor.
Then her neighbor gets involved, first with a sweet request: share the secret family recipe. OP says no, calling it a generations-old tradition she wants to keep private. But it gets messier when the neighbor starts her own baking class and asks to use that same recipe for her students, and OP still refuses, worried about it spreading everywhere.
Now the neighbor is telling everyone OP is “stingy,” and the cookie drama is officially out of the oven.

So I'm a passionate baker, and I recently started teaching a baking class in my community center. I have this secret holiday cookie recipe that's been in my family for generations, and it's a real crowd-pleaser.
The class has been a hit, and everyone loves the cookies I make. Enter my neighbor, who found out about the class and sweetly asked me to share the recipe.
I politely declined, explaining that it's a family secret I prefer to keep. Well, turns out my neighbor is starting her baking class and asked if she could use the recipe for her students.
I hesitated and said no because I didn't want it out there for everyone to replicate. She seemed a bit hurt and implied that I was being stingy.
Now she's telling others in the neighborhood that I'm refusing to help her out when she's just starting her class. I'm torn because on one hand, it's a special family recipe, but on the other, I don't want to come off as selfish.
So, Reddit, AITA for not sharing my holiday cookie recipe with my neighbor's baking class?

It’s basically the same recipe tug-of-war as the neighbor who demanded a secret family cookie recipe for a community bake-off.

The second OP mentioned the recipe is a family secret, the neighbor’s request stopped sounding harmless and started sounding like a demand.
When the neighbor revealed she’s starting a baking class and wanted the recipe for her students, OP’s “no” turned into a whole neighborhood argument.
That’s when the neighbor’s hurt feelings apparently spilled over into gossip, with others hearing OP “won’t help” instead of why OP refused.
By the time the community center cookies hit the rumor mill, OP is stuck wondering if protecting her recipe makes her the villain.

Nobody wants to be the person who gets labeled stingy over a holiday cookie recipe.
