So I'm (37F) living in an apartment complex with a strict no-pet policy due to some past incidents. I've been here for a couple of years now and have managed to keep a peaceful relationship with my neighbors.
Quick context, I suffer from severe allergies, especially to pet dander, and it's well-known in the building. Recently, my neighbor, who lives right next door, got a new dog.
This dog is a lovely golden retriever, very friendly and playful. The issue is, every time the neighbor takes the dog out for a walk or to do its business, it comes waltzing straight into my open front door if I happen to leave it ajar for fresh air.
My allergies go haywire whenever this happens, and I've had a couple of bad reactions that required medication and rest. I've politely asked my neighbor multiple times to ensure their dog doesn't enter my unit, but they seem pretty nonchalant about it, saying the dog is just being friendly and means no harm.
