Sisters Cooking Competition Sabotage: A Culinary Betrayal
Is it fair game or crossing a line? A competitive sibling sabotages her sister's surefire win in a family cooking competition - who's the real winner here?
Sisters and cooking competitions are supposed to be the fun kind of rivalry, the one where everyone pretends they’re calm while secretly sharpening knives and memorizing flavors. But this family’s annual contest turned into something darker the moment Sarah started bragging about her “secret family recipe.”
The OP, 27F, lives in a household where this competition is basically a holiday, and she’s tired of watching Sarah always seem to have the upper hand in the kitchen. Sarah has been practicing non-stop for weeks, the recipe book is treated like sacred text, and the whole thing is already tense before the judges even arrive.
Then the recipe gets “adjusted,” and the whole competition blows up in Sarah’s face.
Original Post
I (27F) come from a family that takes cooking competitions very seriously. Every year, we have a big competition where we each present our signature dish, and the winner gets a special prize.
This year, my sister, Sarah (29F), has been bragging non-stop about her 'secret family recipe' that she's sure will win. I've always been competitive with Sarah, and cooking is the only thing where she's always had the upper hand.
I decided that this year, I wouldn't let her win. For the past few weeks, Sarah has been practicing her dish in the kitchen non-stop.
When she left for work, I sneaked into our family recipe book and made a tiny adjustment to her recipe, adding a pinch of salt instead of sugar. I knew this would ruin her dish.
So, the day of the competition arrives, and everyone is excited to taste Sarah's 'surefire winning dish.' As the judges taste her creation, I see her face drop in confusion. She starts apologizing, saying she must have made a mistake in the recipe.
But deep down, I know it was my doing. The judges are unimpressed, and Sarah doesn't even place in the top three.
She's devastated and can't understand what went wrong. She's been avoiding me since the competition, and our family is starting to notice the tension.
Am I the a*****e for sabotaging my sister's chances in the family cooking competition when she was so confident she would win?

This gets messy like the AITA feud where OP kept a famous holiday pie recipe from a sister-in-law.

The minute Sarah’s been hyping up her winning dish all week, the OP decides she’s done watching her sister get all the confidence.
While Sarah is out at work and the family recipe book sits there like a loaded weapon, the OP sneaks in and swaps sugar for salt.
When judges taste Sarah’s creation and her face drops, the OP’s sabotage turns into a public mystery nobody can ignore.
After Sarah apologizes, gets knocked out of the top three, and stops talking to her sister, the family tension starts spreading fast.

The OP didn’t just ruin a dish, she lit the fuse on a full-blown sister feud.
