50 Times Women Spoke Out Against Clearly Sexist Practices That Are Still Accepted In Today's Society
Every day, sexist ideas, behaviors, and practices contribute to these disparities.
Since the early days of first-wave feminism, when women struggled for the right to vote for an entire 70 years, we have come a long way. The fight for a broader variety of concerns, including the workplace, de facto inequities, family, and many more, began with the second wave of feminism.
The Second Sex, a 1949 book by French philosopher Simone de Beauvoir, helped create the more egalitarian society we have today. Today, we are rapidly approaching a new year, but tragically, there is still much to be done.
Despite the existence of legal frameworks in Europe and the US designed to combat discrimination and advance equality, women continue to be underrepresented in decision-making positions, excluded from certain economic sectors, primarily responsible for unpaid caregiving, paid less than men, and disproportionately targeted by gender-based violence. Every day, sexist ideas, behaviors, and practices contribute to these disparities.
Our society is still largely ruled by misogynistic and sexist attitudes toward women, as evidenced by the gender pay gap, the pink tax, and the lack of women in leadership roles. Fortunately, there is a section of Reddit called "TrollXChromosomes" that brings together individuals who have no patience for misogyny of any kind.

50. I Hate How True This Is
The essential character of men and women and the roles they should perform in society are linked to sexism. Gender stereotypes, which are the result of sexist beliefs about women and men, can place one gender above the other.
We must state unequivocally that sexism is destructive. Despite being the primary cause of gender inequality, sexism disproportionately affects women and girls.
