People Share The "Surprisingly Good" Life Advice They've Received From Others

Most of us are quite good at giving advice to anyone who will listen, but let's be honest: we often dislike being on the receiving end of it. More often than not, we listen politely and then proceed to forget everything we've been told.

However, have you ever received a piece of advice that turned out to be invaluable? Well, that's what this list is all about—surprisingly good advice!

Los Angeles-based television writer Amanda Deibert recently posted on Twitter, asking people to share the best advice they had received. The thread went viral, and the pearls of wisdom shared in response were endless.

Amanda noted that the post generated tons of great advice and "a wealth of amazing wisdom." She believes that people find it easier to see situations clearly when they are happening to others, which is why we tend to be better at giving advice than receiving it.

"When it is our own life, we also have to deal with our own emotions, attachments, and habits. I can easily see something with detachment when it isn't my own issue," Amanda said.

Amanda explains that it can be extremely difficult to detach from our own problems in order to truly assess them. "I think it is actually incredibly difficult to detach and really look at your own life," she elaborated.

"I believe change is difficult and scary, and most good advice revolves around change," Amanda stated. "Actually, that was one of my favorite bits of advice in the thread: not making a decision is a decision... and it's the easiest one to make."

"I think the best way to approach it is to remember that good things are difficult and take work, but sitting back and allowing life to just happen is also a choice."
