50 Unbelievable Posts From Toxic Parents Who Should Be Legally Forbidden To Procreate
Just a warning: some of these might be a bit triggering.
Any extreme is bad. A balanced approach to parenting is the best.
But, of course, it is much easier said than done. Of all those instructional books for parents, not one is written especially for your family and child.
Every child is different. All parents make mistakes, and you learn from each one.
Unfortunately, we will never become perfect parents because we would need about a thousand kids to master the craft of parenting. That's not really doable (just like most of the advice from those parenting manuals).
The 'Parents Are Effing Dumb' subreddit features some of the biggest parenting mistakes that will make you gasp, scream, "Think of the children!" and consider revoking these people's parental rights. Both extremes of parenting—absolute perfectionism/trying to be a "perfect" parent and not trying hard enough—can be damaging to a family.
Believing that you should (or even that you can) be a “perfect” parent is actually harmful to your health, and the belief that you can control every single outcome can spread to other areas of your life, not just parenting. As we said, balance is everything.
We have chosen 50 of the worst examples of parenting, and you should take notes on what not to do. And if you recognize your actions here, please stop doing that.
