Woman Asks Reddit If She's In The Wrong For Using Human Utensils To Serve Dog Food

Her boyfriend said she was being an a**hole and that she should go and buy a special serving spoon for the dog.

Here's a question for all you incredible fur-parents: When you feed your beloved kitty or doggo, do you use human utensils, or do your pets have their own special serving forks and spoons?

Why are we asking? Well, a Reddit user recently shared her story about this exact issue on the AITA (Am I The A**Hole?) subreddit, and it got us wondering.

You see, the Redditor who goes by the username u/jerryyyyyy1 explained that her boyfriend had been concerned about her using their utensils to dish up their dog's food. He figured it was unsanitary, but she reassured him that she hand-washed and put them through the dishwasher before using them again.

He agreed that seemed reasonable, so they both continued to use their utensils for the dog food. That is, until his mother came to visit.

His mother commented that it was "nasty" to use human utensils for the dog food. Of course, OP's boyfriend wasn't about to argue with mommy dearest, so he agreed, and they changed the subject.

The next time OP was dishing up the dog food, as usual, her boyfriend picked a fight with her. He said she was being an a**hole and that she should go and buy a special serving spoon for the dog.

Understandably, our OP wasn't impressed by her boyfriend's sudden urge to be "clean," and she told him so. She also asked the Reddit community if she was the a**hole, and, as always, they had a lot to say about it!

The situation escalated when his mother commented that it was "nasty" to use human utensils for the dog food. So, the OP asked the Reddit community if she was the a**hole here.

So, what do you think? Is using human utensils for animal food gross, or is it perfectly fine?

I mean, we've all done it at some point, right? Besides, what's the point of washing our dishes if we don't trust that they're clean afterward?

Well, technically, there is no reason to believe that animal food is unhygienic. Although it may not be particularly appetizing for us, pet food is still food after all and is not dirty.

We would love to know your opinion on our OP's situation. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
