Neighbors Cats Disturb My Dog: Am I the Jerk for Asking Him to Keep Them Away from the Window?
Neighbor's cats are causing a dog to bark - but is it fair to ask the owner to stop them from looking out the window?
One neighbor’s cats are turning a window into a live-action soap opera, and a Jack Russell Terrier is losing its mind every single time they appear.
OP, a 35-year-old woman, says her dog barks nonstop at the sight of cats, which also means she cannot focus, relax, or even look out her own window without getting dragged into the chaos. The neighbor has three cats that apparently spend plenty of time watching from the window, and OP wants them kept away because it’s disrupting her dog and her daily routine.
Then OP asked for changes, and the neighbor fired back with “entitled,” leaving everyone wondering who crossed the line.

I (35F) have a Jack Russel Terrier, who is usually very well-behaved but goes crazy at the sight of cats and will bark incessantly, which, as you can imagine, gets really annoying. My neighbor has like three cats, which he doesn't seem to allow to go outside, which I think is part of the problem.
They are always looking out the window, which makes my dog, who also likes to look out the window, bark and distract me. Yesterday, I went outside and asked my neighbor if he could stop letting his cats look out the window because of my dog.
He said that it really wasn't an option, apologized and went to go back inside. But I got angry because he wasnr listening and asked if he could consider getting gates or something for his windows.
He, out for the blue, told me that I was acting entitled and that I obviously had no idea what it was like to own cats, which isn't true because I had cats when I was younger. My neighbor went back inside before I could say anything else.
I was pretty firm with myself for awhile but now I'm worried that I may have been unreasonable with my request. AITA?

This is the same kind of tension as keeping inheritance instead of giving it to a mom, sparking a property fight.

OP starts with a straightforward request, asking the neighbor to stop letting the cats look out the window because her Jack Russell’s barking is nonstop.
The neighbor apologizes and goes back inside, but OP gets mad anyway because she feels the cats are still in full view.
When OP suggests gates or something for the windows, the neighbor snaps and calls her entitled, claiming she does not understand what it’s like to own cats.
Before OP can respond, the neighbor retreats again, and now she’s stuck replaying the argument and wondering if she went too far.
How would you handle this situation? Let us know in the comments.
Now OP is wondering if she was trying to fix the window problem, or if she accidentally picked a fight with the wrong neighbor.
